Language Elective Scholarship (French)

The Language Elective Scholarship (French) (FLES) is offered by the Ministry of Education to encourage academically able and linguistically talented students to study French at H2 level under the Language Elective Programme (LEP).

LEP French is available at the Ministry of Education Language Centre (MOELC) (Bishan).

Undergraduate Scholarships will be available to outstanding LEP (French) students to specialise in specific academic or professional disciplines in established tertiary institutions in France.

All applications must be accompanied by an essay, of about 500-600 words, giving a brief write-up about themselves and stating why they would want to apply for this scholarship.

Deadline for the online submission of applications is 14 February 2012.

Selection for Scholarship Awards

Completed IP applications will be forwarded to candidates’ IP schools/JCs. Their IP schools/JCs will select and nominate suitable candidates for the selection interview.

Non-IP candidates will be selected for the scholarship selection interview based on their GCE O-Level Examinations results.

The scholarship selection interviews for both IP & Non-IP candidates will be conducted in late March. They will receive their interview call letters through their respective Schools/JCs in mid March.

Results of the scholarship selection will be announced in May.

Terms & Conditions

The scholarship is valued at $1,000 per annum. It also covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates, subject to an annual cap of $2,400. It is tenable for 2 years, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of JC1 and good conduct. Successful applicants are not required to enter into a bond to serve the Singapore Government.

Successful applicants must offer French at H2 Level but there will not be any restriction on the choice of the remaining H2 Level subjects. Applicants, however, are advised to consider other H2 Level subjects that are preferably relevant to their proposed course of study in the French tertiary institutions.
