Language Elective Scholarship (English)

The English Language Elective Scholarship (ELES) is awarded by the Ministry of Education to encourage students who have an interest in and a flair for the English language to pursue English Language and Linguistics at the pre-university level. The English Language Elective Programme (ELEP) and ELES are available at the following colleges:
Eligibility
Applicant should:
- Be Singapore Citizens;
- Have done consistently well in school, obtaining outstanding results in the GCE O-Level Examinations / equivalent results based on IP school’s internal assessment, including a distinction in English Language;
- Have successfully been admitted to one of the English Language Elective Programme (ELEP) centres;
- Have a very good record of co-curricular activities; and
- Not currently be in receipt of any MOE scholarship (except EESIS and ESIP).

Non-IP Candidates (including Non-IP DSA Candidates)

All applications must be accompanied by an essay, of about 500-600 words, giving a brief write-up about themselves and stating why they would want to apply for this scholarship.
Deadline for the online submission of applications is 14 February 2012.
Selection for Scholarship Awards
IP Candidates (including IP DSA Candidates)
Completed IP applications will be forwarded to their respective IP Schools/JCs for nomination/recommendation. IP applicants nominated/recommended by their IP Schools/JCs will be invited for the scholarship selection interviews.
Results of the scholarship selection for IP candidates will be announced in June.
Non-IP Candidates (including Non-IP DSA Candidates)
Non-IP candidates will be selected for the scholarship selection interview based on their GCE O-Level Examinations results.
The scholarship selection interviews will be conducted in April. Candidates will receive their interview call letters through their respective Schools/JCs in early April.
Results of the scholarship selection for the Non-IP candidates will be announced in June.
Terms & Conditions
The scholarship is valued at $1,000 per annum. It also covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates, subject to an annual cap of $2,400. It is tenable for 2 years, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of JC1 and good conduct. Successful applicants are not required to enter into a bond to serve the Singapore Government.
Applicants must offer English Language and Linguistics as one of their H2 subjects at one of the ELEP centres. There is no restriction on the choice of the remaining H2 Level subjects. Applicants, however, are advised to take 4 H2 Level and consider other H2 Level subjects that are preferably relevant to their proposed course of study at undergraduate level.
