Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care and Career Guidance, or PC for short, is the systematic and comprehensive provision of care for the total well-being and development of all pupils.
All schools are familiar with Pastoral Care and Career Guidance, as it has been introduced in Singapore since the late 80s.
In 2001, the Psychological and Guidance Services Branch launched the PC framework, and all schools were given copies of the framework publication.
To ensure the need of all pupils is provided for, the key features of effective Pastoral Care:
- Whole school approach in the delivery of care;
- Structured programmes to promote the well-being and development of pupils;
- Special assistance to specific groups of pupils who need extra help.
Pastoral Care focuses on the structures and systems that should be in place in order for schools to effectively provide PC. The emphasis here is not so much on the outcomes, but rather, on the processes that need to be in place in schools.
