Special Programmes: Humanities and Social Sciences Research Programme (Secondary) (HSSRP)
Introduction
The programme, organised by the Gifted Education Branch, Education Programmes Division, Ministry of Education, aims to provide Secondary/ Year 3 and 4 SBGE/IP pupils with an interest in Humanities and Social Sciences an opportunity to carry out research under the guidance of experts in the field from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, the Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group, National Institute of Education and the School of Social Sciences, Singapore Management University.
Objective
This programme aims to:
- expand participants’ understanding of the individual and society through explorations of the different dimensions of our world;
- equip participants with some knowledge of research methods used in the humanities and social sciences; and
- impart a passion for independent learning to participants.
Programme Description
This programme comprises of four components.

Mentorship Attachment
This is the period when participants work with their mentors on projects proposed by the mentors. Mentors and participants will meet for discussions for a minimum of 3 contact hours (excluding correspondences and editing of reports).

Project Review
The participants will be given the opportunity to present their papers to a review panel. The panel will shortlist projects to be presented at the Symposium.

Symposium
This Symposium will offer selected participants the opportunity to communicate their research findings to others.

Publication of Project Papers
At the end of the mentorship period, participants will submit their papers to their teacher-supervisors and mentors for vetting and approval for publication. This offers a platform for the participants to share their research findings. The publication of the papers will be subject also to the final decision of the organisers.
Target Group
The programme is open to Secondary/ Year 3 and 4 SBGE/IP pupils.
For Junior Colleges
Since 2006, the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Programme (JC) [HSSRP (JC)] has been replaced by NUS-MOE Humanities and Social Sciences Research (HSSR). It is no longer offered as an enrichment programme. HSSR is offered only as a H3 option.
