Enrichment Activities: Literature Seminar
Aim
The GEP Literature Seminar aims to stimulate pupils' interest in Literature beyond classroom content and enrich their knowledge of the literary discipline.
Objectives
- to stimulate pupils' interest in literature by creating a forum to discuss literary issues beyond the classroom content
- to expose pupils to literary discussion at an advanced level facilitated by academics, teachers, practitioners of literary and perfoming arts
- to encourage pupils to undertake Individualised Research Studies (IRS) on literary topics by generating ideas for research
- to serve as a platform for pupils to share their outstanding literary projects in their coursework or IRS/Mentorship Programmes
Programme Description
The GEP Literature Seminar is usually held after the End-of-Year Exam. It is meant for 300 selected Secondary 2 and 3 participants from all the GEP centres. The format of the GEP Literature Seminar varies slightly from year to year to match the literary focus which may be thematic or based on a specific genre or literary period. The following is the format adopted for recent years:
- A Forum (made up of a panel of writers, academics, critics or practitioners of the literary and performing arts)
- Concurrent Sessions conducted by guest facilitators (writers, academics, critics, practitioners of the literary and performing arts)
- Concurrent Sessions conducted by pupil presenters (from the different GEP Centres)
