Enrichment Activities: Traffic Statistics and Supermarket Visit
Aim
The aim of the Traffic Statistics and Supermarket Visit is to provide pupils with the opportunity to apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations via stimulating outdoor activities.
Objectives
- to enable pupils to learn Mathematics in a fun and interesting way
- to see the connection between Mathematics concepts taught in the classroom and how Mathematics is used in real-life situations
Programme Description
These are school-based activities that are conducted during curriculum time. They are usually carried out in the neighbourhood around the school. These activities complement the topics taught in the classroom.
- count the various types of vehicles that pass by along the road within a stipulated time
- tabulate the result and present it in a form of a bar graph
- make a useful inference from the graph
During the Supermarket Visit, pupils plan and decide what items to purchase for a class party with a given budget.
