Enrichment Activities: Elevating Concepts by Changing Mindsets

Aim

The aim of ECCM is to allow pupils to develop ideas and products based on topics in the Primary 5 Science curriculum.

Objectives

• to encourage the learning of concepts rather than facts
• to develop critical & creative thinking
• to provide a channel for pupils to develop ideas / products reflective of their potential and capabilities

Programme Description

ECCM was first launched in 2000 as a post examination activity for Primary 5 pupils in the GE programme. Pupils are given 3 weeks to work on topics in the Primary 5 Science curriculum. A write-up (1-2 pages) explaining how the idea / product reflects, represents the concept must be submitted. Ideas/products are evaluated by Primary 5 Science teachers based on a set of criteria. Results are announced through the ECCM website together with the judges' comments.
