Enrichment Activities: Creative Writing Camp
Aim
The aim of the Creative Writing Camp is to nurture the creative writing talents of selected GEP pupils by providing them with opportunities to interact and work with professionals in the field. It is an extension of the Selective Enrichment programme. Verbally talented pupils who demonstrate exceptional ability in creative writing are identified and they are provided with crystallising experiences to manifest their potential.
Selective Enrichment
Selective Enrichment was introduced to allow gifted pupils to attain optimal levels of learning. It offers differentiated lessons to cater to the different aptitudes and ability levels of pupils.
The P4 Selective Enrichment is implemented within-class for both English Language and Mathematics. Pupils are identified and grouped into different ability groups and provided with differentiated learning experiences in certain topics for Mathematics and the concept unit lessons in English Language. There is flexible grouping of pupils based on the teachers' observations of their ability and performance in the subjects.
The P5 Selective Enrichment takes place both within-class and in the form of a pull-out enrichment programme. The within-class differentiation is similar to that of P4. The pull-out programme is an opt-in programme meant for those who manifest exceptional ability in English or Mathematics. The pull-out programme in English would take the form of a Creative Writing Camp held in June and September. Similarly, the pull-out programme in Mathematics would have an enrichment camp in June. Unlike the P4 Selective Enrichment, pupils would remain in their ability grouping in the P5 Selective Enrichment for both subjects.
The P4 and P5 Selective Enrichment programmes take place throughout the academic year.
