Management of Infectious Diseases in Kindergartens

As many childhood disease are infectious and children spend a large part of their day at kindergartens in groups and in close contact with one another, they are more vulnerable to infectious diseases. Operators must ensure that persons employed in kindergartens have adequate experience and knowledge to handle occurrence of infectious diseases.

All kindergarten principals are advised to keep handy a copy of ‘Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in Childcare Centres/Kindergartens/ Preschool Centres’ by the Ministry of Health for reference. Preventive measures based on the guidelines should be put in place to ensure a high standard of hygiene in the kindergarten.

When there is an occurrence of infectious disease, principals are to follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and work in collaboration with the health authorities and MOE to control further spread of the disease.
